Hana’s Hina books were highly commended at the 2011 CLL Educational Publishing awards in the primary education category, and won the LIANZA best non-fiction publication in Te Reo Māori.

Hina & Tuna

A legend from Manihiki Atoll about the origins of the coconut. The eldest son of the sea guardian Tangaroa, called Tuna (half eel half human) falls in love with Hina. They live together, but Maui-pōtiki is also in love with her, and kills Tuna. Hina buries Tuna's severed head, and waters it with her tears. This is the legend of the coconut.

Hineteiwaiwa

Motutapu legend about the first pūkana. Kae steals Tinirau's pet whale and kills him. Tinirau's wife Hineteiwaiwa goes to find Kae. She takes a group of women with her. In front of Kae's people, the women perform their waiata and dance with pūkana, the first ever performed. Kae appears and the women take him at night when he is sleeping...back to face Tinirau.

A Hina rāua ko Mo‘o Kuna

A legend from Hilo, on the island of Hawaiʻi. Hina, goddess-mother of Māui, lives under the rainbow waterfalls. Monster sized lizard Mo'o Kuna is causing trouble in the river. Pele the volcano Goddess helps out with her lava and Māui with his spear and club.
